Psychologists use scientific methods to study the factors that influence the way people think, feel and learn, and evidence-based interventions to help people to overcome challenges and enhance their psychological wellbeing and functioning. Many psychologists work directly with those experiencing difficulties, such as mental health disorders including anxiety and depression.

 

Fees and charges

Clients may be able to claim a partial rebate from Medicare, up to a maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year. To receive this rebate you must be referred by a General Practitioner under Medicare’s Better Access to Mental Health Care Programme. Alternatively clients can be referred directly by a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.

A number of private health funds may also cover psychology services. Clients are encouraged to check with their fund as to their exact cover.

Please note that Medicare and private health fund rebates cannot be claimed for the same consultation.
